Valley View University

Valley View University was established in 1979 by the West African Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists.  In 1997 it was absorbed into the Adventist University system operated by the West Central Africa Division (WAD) now West Central African Division of Seventh-day Adventist with headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.  The Ghana Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, (organized in 2000), serves as the local manager of the University.

Valley View University was initially called the Adventist Missionary College (AMC) and was located at Bekwai-Ashanti.  It was transferred to Adenta near Accra in 1983 where it operated in rented facilities until it was relocated to its present site near Oyibi (kilometre 31 on the Accra-Dodowa Road) in 1989.  It was renamed Valley View College.

The Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) has, since 1983, been evaluating and reviewing the accreditation status of the institution.  In 1995, the University was affiliated to Griggs University in Silver Springs, Maryland, USA.  This allowed the University to offer four years’ bachelor’s degrees in Theology and Religious Studies.  Then in 1997, the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of the Ministry of Education in Ghana granted Valley View College national accreditation thus permitting her to award her own degrees. Thus, Valley View University became the first private institution in Ghana to be granted national accreditation.

The University serves students from all over the world.  It admits qualified students regardless of their religious background, provided such students accept the Christian principles and lifestyle which forms the basis for the University’s operations.

Valley View University is a private university with campuses located at Oyibi, Kumasi and Techiman respectively in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Bono East regions of Ghana. It forms part of a worldwide system of over 100 tertiary institutions operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

ANS We do not have any prescribed uniform or attire. We, however, as a tertiary institution, insist that our students dress decently.

ANS Yes; the University has a Counseling Centre, manned by an experienced counselor and a chaplain.

QUE I am a student at one of the Schools – can I transfer to another School?

ANS Yes – but transfer terms and conditions shall apply.

ANS Yes – The University has accommodation for students’ utilization. More of them are being built to accommodate the increasing number of the student population.

ANS Yes – The there are experienced counselors that can assist students and prospective students with all their academic needs.

QUE I need to obtain a transcript – who do I contact?

ANS You will need to come to the front desk of the admissions and records, fill a form, make payment then the transcript can be issued. If you are outside the country, identify someone to make payment on your behalf (give the person an authorization note) and the transcript will be sent to an address of your choice, or the person with the authorization not can collect it for you.

ANS The academic year at Valley View University runs from August to May, and summer session runs from June 1, to July 30.

ANS Yes -There are a lot of IT related programs, an example is the annual ICT Expo: a platform for Institute of Computer Science (ICS) students to showcase their projects.

QUE Are there any sports activities on Campus?

ANS Yes – Valley View University engages in a lot of Sports activities ranging from football, basketball, volley ball, and athletics; just to mention a few. There is an ultra modern gym on campus as well.

VVU ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission requirements for all the courses are the same as those for the regular courses as required by the National Accreditation Board. One of the following shall apply:

1. GCE “O” Level: Five (5) credits including English Language & Mathematics, plus at least two (2) GCE “A” Level passes and a pass in General Paper.
2. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): Six (6) SSSCE credits with a minimum of aggregate 24 in three core subjects (Mathematics, English, and Science) plus three (3) electives.
3. Other diplomas and certificates deemed equivalent to 1 or 2 above will be considered on merit.
4. General Education Development Diploma (GED) with an average score of 50 and no score less than 45 in each of the five subjects.
5. Holders of HND, 3-Year Post Secondary certificate, DBS, City & Guilds, and RSA Stages II & III may also apply.
6. Mature Students (25 years or over);

Candidate should pass the Valley View University Entrance Examination with a percentage score of 50 in all three subject. ( English, Mathematics and General Paper) Candidate may also be asked to attend an admission interview.

VVU UNDERGRADUATE MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. SSSCE/WASSCE holders: Credit passes (A-D/A1-C6) in six subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
2. GBCE holders: Credit passes (A-D) in six subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies, plus three (3) relevant subjects.
3. HND and Diploma holders from Polytechnics and Universities are eligible to apply for consideration on individual basis.
4. Diploma in Basic Education/3-year Teacher’s Cert ‘A’ holders are eligible to apply for degree programmes in Education.
5. GCE Advanced Level: Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-Science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students).
6. Baccalaureate (from French-speaking countries), and other Foreign High School Diploma equivalent to WASSCE. Such certificates should be evaluated by the National Accreditation Board.
7. Registered General Nursing/State Registered Nursing Certificate/Diplomaholders.
8. Mature Students: Applicants must be 25 years and above, and should pass the University’s Mature Entrance Examination comprising English Language, Mathematics, and General Paper. Mature Exams are held in July and December each year.
