Bread and Wine Restaurant

Bread and Wine is undoubtedly one of a handful of the best restaurants in Accra, and therefore Ghana.

A short walk from the 24hour madness of Oxford Street you find yourself in a tranquil refuge: clean, white and ordered. It is a small estate, which incorporates the main restaurant (an elegant colonial building) and its terrace, a separate outdoor dining area, geared more toward brunching or lunching, and its very own boulangerie/coffee shop, which is open from 7am. It is as if you are being welcomed into the intimate setting of someone’s home. Once you make it passed its gates, and the security that guard them, you are able to shed the load of the city.

What started off as Ghana’s first modern “French bistro”, serving dishes such as Sole Meuniere and Fois Gras, has now morphed into yet another Italian/European Fusion, reflecting a general resistance amongst Ghana’s restaurants to commit to one style of cuisine or one concept. The only difference is Bread and Wine is actually offering genuinely refined fare, with a focus on the finest of ingredients – from the Buratta to the olive oil , whilst still giving the people what they want.
The owners recently imported an Italian chef, formerly of restaurant Babbo in London’s Mayfair, who takes his menu very seriously.

Come lunch or dinner, enjoy their authentic Spaghetti a la Vongole and tender baby chicken, and brunch specials include Eggs Benedicte – which while not perfect, will hit the spot. For dessert we highly recommend the cheesecake, which comes elegantly served on black slate. And while it is tiny, it has a perfect airy consistency – it is subtle and quite frankly delicious.

On Thursday nights Bread and Wine makes use of its swimming pool to host pool parties, with great music from their live DJ, and cocktails at the pool bar mixed by a very able bar man.
